Changing It Up

Hi Everyone! I wanted to share a new card that I have created but I did something different than my standard die cutting. For some time I have wanted to challenge myself with coloring stamped images. So I took a deep breath and jumped in....now I am hooked. For this card I used the cutest stamp "Fairy Girl" by Pure Innocence. To start this process I chose to use colored pencils and Odorless Mineral Spirits (Mona Lisa brand). I have watched several videos on this technique and I must say I love how it turned out.

Fall Fever...so let's create!

Hello Crafters! I wanted to share a wreath I made to celebrate my favorite season....FALL. I love everything about Fall. Fall has always been memorable for me because this is a time a year when my family gets together for chili dinners or just spending time together with a hot cocoa. I was inspired to create a wreath using my Cricut Explore and Cricut Design Space. I was amazed at how simple and fast this process was. I was a little ambitious and cut out 225 leaves. I had no idea how many I would need because I wanted to make a large rectangular wreath. I did not quite use all the leaves but I used most of them. So let me show you the steps to this process.

Here is the completed wreath. The bow was the most challenging for me...I have a love/hate relationship with bow but I succeeded. The ribbon is from Michaels by Celebrate It "Harvest".

I used Cricut Design Space to cut my leaves. I used the search function for leaves, leaf, Fall, and Autumn. Here are the measurements and cartridge from left to right: (green) 2.54" x 3.5", (pink) 1.81" x 2.5" I am sorry I don't know the name of the cartridge for these; (red) 'Home for the Holidays Fall/Winter' 1.118" x 2.5"; (dark red) 'Straight
From the Nest' 3.64" x 4" and (yellow) 'Straight From the Nest' 3.18" x 3.5".

This is what the leaves look like after cutting them out...BORING! So, I decided to do some inking and misting. Yes, that is 225 leaves. I used Recollections cardstock...it is a pack of Autumn colors. I was impressed how durable the cardstock is.

Before Misting.

After Misting.

I used Ranger Perfect Pearls Mist....LOVE this stuff!

A close up of how these leaves transform after a little misting is done.

After misting I decided to ink the edges and this just added more dimension to the leaves. On most I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink 'Walnut Stain'.

On the yellow maple leaves I decided to try some red ink and love how these looked.

After all the misting and inking I felt they still needed something else. So, I waded them up in my hand to create this crinkle effect. I did this with all of them except for the smallest leaf.

For my base I used a foam board by Elmer's. The board measures 16" x 20". I cut out the center leaving a 4.25" frame. I then covered the front of the foam board with kraft cardstock so that the white would not show through. Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the foam board after it was cut.

I used a hot glue gun to apply the leaves and I layered the leaves in a counter clock wise around the foam board. I did not apply the smallest leaf (the red one in the image above) until the end. This small leaf worked great as a filler.

My welcome sign is from Lacy Labels and Measures 5.25" x 10". I used my Crop-A-Dial to punch holes in the sign and the edge of the wreath. I used raffia to hang the welcome sign.

Today I am featuring a Mini Album that was created using the Close to my Heart Cricut Cartridge "Artbooking". This particular cartridge is my personal favorite...the possibilities are endless. So let's get started.

This is the finished album. I used the Bind-it-All for the binding using a 3/4" o-wire...love this machine. This mini album was created for my BFF who is an incredible teacher and just a great lady!

Here is a side view of the album. This album measures 8" x 6" and as I mentioned was created using the Close to my Heart Artbooking cartridge for Cricut. If interested in this cartridge follow the link to the left.

Here is a closer look at the pages before binding. The paper pack is from Heidi Swapp 'Hello Today' (my favorite paper) and I used lots of Heidi Swapp stamps. If you have any questions, please, let me know. Or if you would like to see a video on how to create such a project leave me a comment.

The little page cards were a cut from the Artbooking cartridge and stamped with a note page stamp that was included in the Artbooking kit.

The outside of this pocket was white. I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink 'Peacok Feathers' to give it some color.

I used the Cricut Design Space to do the writing for me on this page.

Finally Space to Create

Hello fellow crafters. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I just wanted to share what my hubby did for me over the weekend. He added a counter top to my work area and boy has it expanded my work space. He received the counter top for free and made some open cabinets for underneath. Now I have space to make the videos I want to share with everyone. The wall color looks a little strange in the pictures. They are blue and green (specifically blue and green from Monsters Inc.) from when our grandson lived with us for a year. I did not want paint at this time and the colors do make the room cheerful. Please, subscribe to my blog so that you can receive updates on projects I share. Next weekend I will have the instructional video up which shows you how to create the easiest mini album from a single piece of 12 x 12 cardstock. Happy Creating!!!

MCCR Blog Hop: Hanging at the Zoo

If you came from
PAPER CRAFTING FROM ANOTHER VIEW
you are in the right place...
If not please visit http://mycricutcraftroom.blogspot.com to start the hop. There is a special giveaway for today - details at the end of this post. Good Luck!

Hello Everyone, my name is Kim. Thank you for stopping by The Electric Poppy as you go through the My Cricut Craft Room Blog Hop. Brief description of what I have created for you. I made a zoo themed mini album using the cuddly characters from 'Create a Critter' cartridge from Cricut. The mini album is made from a single piece of 12 x 12 cardstock. So lets take a look.

This is the cover. Each page of this mini album measures: 4" x 5 3/8". I used glossy accents on the word Wild and applied some Doodlebug Sequins for some bling.
The album first opens vertically (I have a video below to show this mini in action) to 2 pages that have a small pocket that will hold photos or a tag. The word 'Happy' is from the Cricut cartridge 'Robotz' or on Cricut Design Space it is one of the Cricut Fonts. The word 'Explorer' is part of the 'Create a Critter' cartridge. These pictures are measure 3 1/4" x 2 1/2".
The album will then open horizontally showing 2 pages; one of which is a flap (on the right). Again, each page measures 4" x 5 3/8" - I created 2 mats: 3 7/8" x 5 1/4" and 3 3/4" x 5 1/8". These mats frame and create the background. As you can see there are 2 tags peeking from behind the hippo, we will get to those momentarily.
While staying on the same page the hippo page will flip up vertically revealing 2 more pages. Again these adorable characters are from Cricut 'Create a Critter'. I created these characters in Cricut Design Space and will be sharing this file with my followers.
On the next page is areas for mounting pictures and has places for tags. The elephant page has a large enclosed pocket that will hold 2 tags or one large tag that can be used to journal a special day. The turtle page with the small pocket can be used for a journaling tag or photo.
Here is a closer look at the takes which are craft tags by Ranger. The smaller tags measure 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" and the large tag measures 3 1/4" x 4 1/8". These tags are perfect for mounting photos or journaling about a special trip or memory.
This is where it all started - a single piece of 12 x 12 cardstock. I used CutMate paper for the base. I will be creating a blog in the few days to show all the details of scoring and cutting to create this album. So, please, be sure to follow my blog and subscribe to receive e-mails.
This was the hardest task...picking out the papers. They all measure 4" x 4" to make cutting happen quickly. I used CutMates paper and Paper Layerz by Megan Elizabeth.
Here are all the characters waiting to be assembled. I must admit this process was the fastest as I used Cricut Design Space.
I know this is a lot of photos but I wanted to show all the details. This is how I assembled my little characters by using a Xyron Create-a-Sticker machine. This really made assembly happen quickly.
Here they are waiting to find their place on your scrapbook page, card, or mini album. As I said, I will be sharing this file with my subscribers and followers.

I used My Mind's Eye 'Follow Your Heart - Be Amazing' 6" x6" paper pack for the smaller mats to create the backgrounds and the tags by Ranger.
I used stamps by Heidi Swapp to stamp on the tags. Love them!!!
